[/hv] 2D is inserted as the most likely bid but ignore that if you would bid something else. The question is how you would plan to handle the entire sequence with a passing partner and a a non-invitational 3H bid. In the Bermuda Bowl, this hand was held at one table by Eric Rodwell while his opponent who held the same hand at the other table was Zia Mahmood. smerriman
3♠ is tempting but after ruling out hands where partner would have doubled 2♥, I think I'm just going to defend.
mw64ahw
A toss up between passing & doubling?
LBengtsson
if 3♥ is not an invite but based on length of ♥ suit then partner has something. we're white vulnerability to compete. but what I dont want to do is push them to 4♥ though I have a strong hand over opening bidder and they are probably down. partner only need turn up with ♠Axxxx or ♠Qxxxx/♦Qx and zilch for 4♠ contract to be possible. bidding 3♠ here suggest greater length and 6♦/5♠ though at Bermuda Bowl level I would have michaels/ghestem type bid on my CC to show this hand. so here I feel 2♦ followed by X is best, though I would like to know what the opps 2♥ bid show, and whether they have option to bid forcing 1NT followed by 2♥. so my bid 2♦ then X hope for good result lol! Winstonm
Rodwell played in 4D doubled after starting with double and then bidding diamonds at the 4-level!Meanwhile, Zia played in 2D doubled because of this: [hv=pc=n&s=skj95h4dkjt852caq&w=sat873hq32d96c652&n=sq42hkt865d7cj843&e=s6haj97daq43ckt97&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=p1dp1s1nd2cppd2dppdppp]399|300|1N=weak takeout[/hv] Yes, this is the same hand. At one table, Nisar of Pakistan opened 1H on his 1444 hand while Bobby Levin opened the same hand 1D. Although it looks like a big swing, it wasn't that much as Rodwell went down 2 while Zia went down 1 when he crossed to the spade Q and led a diamond to his 8-spot, losing to the 9. It looks like at least one of N-S is getting MI here!
