Bad_Wolf
Hinew to xyz.How do people tend to continue with something like... xxAKxxxxxQJxx after... 1C 1H1S ? I guess I am really asking if 1c-1h-1s-2c-2d-2H shows 6H. Thanks
jillybean
1♣ 1♥1♠ 2♣*2♦* 2♥ Shows 5+ hearts and invitational values for me.
TylerE
No, 2♥ shows 5, not 6.
apollo1201
Shows rather 5 than 6 with invitational values. With 6 good H, you can jump to 3H so 6 bad H can also be in the picture

mikeh
What would;1♣ 1♥1♠ 2♥ show? I would assume 5+ bad heartsDepends on methods. If you play weak jumpshifts, which I don’t, then this sequence is constructive...it’s low end is just above the upper limit for a wjs and it’s high end is just below an invitational bid. If you don’t have wjs in your arsenal (and I’m ok with that, in my methods, since we use 1m 2M for other hands), then this sequence is wider in range, same upper limit but lower low end. That has its downside in that opener risks getting too high with a good hand, raising to 3H (as an example) when responder is minimum or missing a decent game by passing, when responder is maximum. However, in ALL cases, it should show at least 6 hearts, even if playing that the 1S bid could be on a balanced hand. Just because it could be on a balanced hand does not mean that it is on a balanced hand, and 2H will often end the auction. KJxx x Axx KQxxx: bidding over 2H is simply silly. Typical responder hand: xx KQ10xxx Qxxx x When, as is common (but far from universal) in expert circles, 1S promises at least 4=5 in the blacks, 2H would be silly on a 5 card suit, and appalling on a bad 5 card suit.
apollo1201
What would;1♣ 1♥1♠ 2♥ show?I would assume 5+ bad hearts Mikeh had it (as always) well explained. 6-cds (as you can’t expect partner to be balanced and have at least 2-cds), and less than invitational values. Could be KQ 6th and out if you use 2H for other bids (like strong jump shifts, or reverse Flannery) than a weak jump shift. The only hands I would risk repeating my H with only 5 is when those are actually good and most of all textured to have 1 or maybe 2 losers in the trump suit facing shortness, eg KQJTx or KQT9x or QJT9x. The hand must also have a strong allergy to partner’s suits, and also prefer risking ending on a 5-1 fit rather than playing NTs. Figure sth like Mikeh’s « typical » hand with slightly more robust H, but shorter by 1, to be replaced by a diamond more.
