We were one of four pairs, out of 18, who bid it. It's hard to argue with results but I don't know how we could bid it intelligently.

Playing 12-14 nt , I open 1

1 2 (clubs, gf)

3 3

3 4*

5 2+Q ....

I can concoct a reply using 4-way transfers, but with a known (by North) 34/35 points between you the following is all that is required after South's response

1NT-4 (Super Gerber version)

4NT (2 Aces & 1 King)-7NT

Converting our NT system to strong NT.

1N-2(weak one minor or GF SI both minors at least 5-4)

3(4+)-3(both minors cue agrees )

3(cue)-4(cue)

4-4(aces ?)

4(0/3)-4N(Q?)

5N(yes, no side kings but extras)-6(I have one of the K/Q, bid the grand with the other)

7-7N

after a 1n opening 15-17 we are going to be in at least 6n so how do we search for 7? IMHO

1n 15-17

2s Minor Suit Stayman (MSS) (0 to unlimited)

3d 4+ diamonds denies 4+ clubs

4c RKC for diamonds (you can use CRO here as well)

5d 0 or 3

5h specific king ask (yes even knowing p has no extra kings because it can get us info on club Q yay or nay)

5n no kings but a useful Q (clubs Q is useful because of the MSS bid)

7n can count 4c 4d 3h 2s as a minimum

And if such is the case, the bridge god must really hate you. smile.gif

Oh they do, 2 recent examples, we bid a grand that demanded 2 suits only missing the J were Jxxx offside and they were. Also were originally cost a swiss teams event by investigating a slam, signing off in 5 and getting the 5-0 offside break required to beat it. Then when they stuck the results up on the net we found a score entered the wrong way to win by a VP.

I was thinking when you went down in 5, the other table peacefully played in 3 making 10 tricks. Or had left your teammates defend in 4 something for 1 or 2 NV undoubled tricks. Same for the grand, they would be playing 4 making 11 on a sloppy play🤣🤣.
