Echognome
[hv=d=n&v=n&n=shakj9543dkj76ck7&w=s87hq8dq1093ca6432&e=skj942h2da8542c85&s=saq10653h1076dcqj109]399|300|Scoring: IMP1♥ - (1♠) - P - (P)X - All Pass[/hv] NS managed to only take 1♠ 2 down. East did will not to play trumps and eventually South was endplayed. The recriminations started in the post-mortem (as usual). 4♥ makes with ease and 6♥ made at a few tables. South - "You shouldn't reopen with a double on that hand as you had a void in their suit."North - "You shouldn't have 3 card support when trap passing." How do you feel about North and South's actions? How might you have bid the hands differently?
Guest Jlall
I really disagree with norths reopening X. Similarly if it went 1H-1S-X(penalty) i would pull. You have 7-4 with a void in trumps. Experience tells that a void in trumps is horrible especially at the one level. You can't lead one through for partner. I agree that trapping with 3 card support is usually a bad idea, but on this hand I have sympathy for south. The only reason I wouldn't is that they would probably run to 2D anyways, but a case could be made that passing then sitting a X out then bidding 4H when they bid 2D is a very descriptive sequence. Gerben42
I also would not have Xed with North, but Pass with South is very descriptive. If only North had had one of West's small trumps it would be a different world. So I don't agree with that there are two wrongs here. Besides, although two wrongs don't make a right, three lefts do. luke warm
if we were at unfavorable, i think south should bid rather than pass.. but at this vulnerability, i don't see anything wrong with the pass... with the north hand i'd bid 3♥, not x and not diamonds (yet)
Fluffy
south's biddign is 100% right, Noth's could be blamed, but not because he has a void. It is because he has only 2♣ and a 7 card suit.
Double !
although two wrongs don't make a right, three lefts do. Remembered this quote but couldn't remember who had had it written as their message before: now I know. Try using this quote with a middle or high school teacher or dean who's giving you a lecture on desired behavioral decorum. Would love to see their' reactions. lolololololololThen again, a Math teacher might be impressed.
