Multi surprise

For those who play Multi 2

[hv=pc=n&s=skqjhkj93d9873ck8&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=2d?]133|200[/hv]

2 weak 2 in Major or 20-22 balanced

Double - 13-16 balanced or any very strong hand

It's important to get into the multi auction when you have opening values otherwise fourth hand can be stuck and it just leads to a guessing game.

Most standard action is X, but red, aceless, min strength and a bit heavy in the majors (we don’t want partner to overcompete in minors), I wouldn’t blame partner for passing.

agree. except if p. (N) has opening values, game is not to be there, so even if you have X to show 13-16 bal. this hand is at the very bottom range. I don't like bidding weak nt hands 12-14 over weak bids at the two level except if they have more distribution then they would not qualify to open 1Nt! if the ops. had opened 1/1 then would you have a bid? answer, no. it's also likely that the ops are odds to find a poor part score as you are from finding a good one, let miss a game. some hands demand pass: this is one.

Pass

Only a Walter the walrus thinks this hand is a 13 count.

No aces. almost half our hcp in a suit that is short and (by a non-trivial margin) rates to be RHO’s major, while our holding in the other major is tremendous on defence, if he has hearts, and limited on offence.

Plus partner is still there

Not 13, but it is 12 which is what I need for a double. Also depends on what your opps consider to be a weak 2, might be guaranteed hearts if Axxxxx isn't, if that's the case I'm happy to pass. There is a danger of 2-P-2-P-P back to you, now what ? Partner looking at his 13 with 3 spades can't act in many schemes and difficult for you to do so now also.

If this is what a 2 opening looks like, what would their 2 opening have meant? There is some suspicion of East being slightly economical with their information here.

I sometimes wonder if these bids and explanations are tailored to the "visitors" who are usually protected from such methods in their home country. (Thanks ACBL)

This was face to face and the explanation was as brief as I included in the hand, the pass was not alerted at all.

We are learning as we go!
