play or defend

Recommended Posts

As my wife will attest, I am not always good at following instructions: I initially analyzed this as played by South, and don't think it can be beaten from that side.

I don't see how east being on lead helps, so my take is that the contract is cold, played double-dummy. East might help declarer out, in real life, by bidding at some point.....say either by opening 1N or by bidding 1N after South opens and the auction goes 1H P 1S 1N

Personally, I can't see getting to 4S, but that's beside the point.

To put a focus on a specific line, I'll put this in spoilers if anyone is still trying to work out if it always makes. I managed to make it at the table with some help (yes I did push it too hard as North).

GIB says it can always be made, but what I'm really curious about is why do you have to specifically lead the 7 at trick 3 (why doesn't the 9 lead to the same result)?
