2 Vul, first seat at imps... that is putrid. That bid is horrible, end of story.

This hand, and similiar ones I have seen posted here and occuring on BBO suggest that a discussion of preempting strategy --- especially at imps, on this forum might be a good idea. Things to consider (besides type of game, ie, imps, mp, bam), is vulnerablity condition, and seat in which the bid occurs. Maybe we should start a new thread...

XX is the worst by far.

2S-terrible bid but could work out. It's like playing craps at a casino.

4S-fine, not in on the joke

pass-north has a borderline hand, Xing would be ok but pass is too

reopening X- LOL. Horrible bid regardless of how well it worked. What is this guy thinking?

XX-!!!! by far the worst bid simply because it cost the most imps. He has no distro and only 2 trumps.

I don't see any other wrong bid than 2, it's just madness! RDbl isn't the brightest bid as well, but if you start completely wrong, then all other poor bids are just a result of that first mistake.

I am with you. Althou the double is not so bad given that is probably based on UI from north thinking hehe.

heh

north's pass was in tempo. when asked, south says he was trying to make up some ground as they had just suffered a -14 on the following disaster:

P   - 3NT - X - All Pass

*supposed to be minors, but self-alerted as takeout

Overbidding 5 tricks at uinfavorable at IMPs? East should hang for this. West's redouble is a felony--OK on values if East were biddding rationally, but better support is needed--with only 8 trumps, the double could be a stack.

Double is only a misdemenor--wrong under normal conditions, but South has a surprise trump trick and some defense. Assuming of course that they play this double as penalty (it would be takeout for me). It is a resonble gamble given they are desparate to get a good score and may cause declarer to misguess a finesse.

North's pass is a mere infraction--values are borderline. I would have doubled for takeout (then South has an easy leave in) and would still double if we played this for penalties, but pass is merely conservative rather than horrible.

2S p 4S p p X = takeout? NO. 4N=takeout, Dbl = penalty. Remember, South passed 2S

2S = terrible bid, 0-10 is too wide a range

4S = normal

X = speculative dbl. Seems OK to me

XX = Someone does not understand math. Penalty XX is almost never profitable. 4SX making is plenty of points. But a 50 spade break or other bad luck could turn a par result (everybody is in 4SX) into a terrible disaster

Obviously South.

In this looking-glass world where nothing is at it seems, South holds the only hand that has what it should - a clear-cut error. Someone should inform South that he has "tavelled through a new diminsion of space and time....".

i might (MIGHT) open the east hand not vul in 3rd seat, but even then my partner needs to have a great sense of humor... what a horrible bid.. i can't blame west for the raise, seems ok to me, but the redouble looks a tad uncalled for

what was north doing? he probably thought west was furthering the preempt and just doubled for takeout... and west decided to show him how wrong he was... unfortunately, west's partner didn't quite have his bid
