I think it's an instructive hand in making sure you make your contract. You are declaring 3NT and are grateful to get a spade lead. You beat the K with your ace and lay down the ♦J. LHO plays the K. Over to you. T1: ♠2 - 4 - K - AT2: ♦J - K - ? Advanced/Expert please use hidden text. Beginner/Intermediate may use hidden text if they desire. Having got the friendly lead of a ♠ I will duck the K♦ and unless the diamonds split 5-0 I will make 3NT :)
mr1303
I think the title of the problem gives the solution away. It's more interesting of course, at matchpoints.
Echognome
Hehe Mark. I think the fact that it's posed as a problem gives it away. What I hope the BIL learn from it is WHY it's a problem.

Guest Jlall
duck in case of stiff king. Not much of a problem at MP, they would never cover with Kxxx or Kxx so the only relevant cases are Kx and stiff K. Kx is much more likely so you should win. Fluffy
If they didn't cover you would had to overtake with ♦Q to try a ♥ finese that might save an undertrick.
Echognome
LHO had K98x and RHO had x. If you take the ace you limit your diamond tricks to 3 and your contract goes down. In the actual hand I had another entry to dummy (that LHO didn't know was a certain entry), so I just chuckled and took the ace and cleared the suit. I said after the hand "nice try." Guest Jlall
why was it a nice try. He totally blew it if you had stiff J or Jx(with no entry in dummy). Silly cover.
Fluffy
He blew nothing if declarer has ♦Jx and wins in dummy, one trick and a half if he has ♦J stiff, but gained 3 possible tricks if declarer holds ♦Jxx.All in all its just a bad play but I've seen worse. I might have had a hint of sarcasm in my voice when I said it.
