3th hand weak

Suppose you play Muiderberg and multi 2 opening

- Muiderberg: 2M = 5 card M - 4+ card m ; 5 - 10 pts

- multi 2: 6 card M ; 5 - 10 pts (or 22-23 HCP)

You agreed with you partner that in 3rd hand NVUL after 2 passes you will bid this more 'gambling':

You can be weaker/stronger; Muiderberg does not need the 4 card m; you can bid the multi with only 5 card M.

But then 5 card M can be opened with 2 or 2M.

Questions:

- What would you open with a 5-card M and no 4 card m?

- What do you consider a maximum hand to open weak in 3rd hand?

You seem to be saying that the multi and the Muiderberg now can have the same hand type in 3rd seat.

Why not play the 2D opening as something else in 3rd? Weak in diamonds, or weak in both majors, or whatever other toy takes your fancy.

As for the maximum, that depends on my mood and the opponents. Something such as KQxxx xx Axxx Kx I might open a weak 2 some of the time (not very often) just to keep the opponents on their toes. But then J10xxx xx xxxx xx could also be a 3rd in favourable weak 2.

Non vulnerable against vulnerable I can have anything when I pre-empt 3rd in hand! I even have the agreement with my partner that responder can never bid in a situation like this .... well, unless he has 7-card support or better :-)

Those pre-empts are obviously alertable and should be explained as: "Either a normal pre-empt in that suit, or any random hand, good or bad. I am not allowed to bid".

I'd prefer to open it with Muiderberg, the chance of landing up in 3m when we should be in 2M is less than the chance of being a level too high having opened a multi IMO. But yes, three weak twos is probably a better set-up.

Just open multi and pass anything partner bids, even if it's the other Major B) And change the 2M openings to something like 4M & 5+m. No need for 2 bids which show the same type of hand.

Just for the record these are the last 2 hands I opened a weak 2 in third position:

2

Jxxxx

Kx

xxx

xxx

2

xxx

QJTx

xxx

Kxx

So my answer is that if you want to open a weak 2 in third position you can do it whenever you feel it's right. No rules please, no rules. Rules lead to fear, fear leads to the dark side.

I remember your last 3 opening, it was 2344 if I recall correctly:)
