apollo1201
Confinement season 2 episode 1 here, so we practiced online with friends. IMPs, all red. You deal and have the nice following collection AJ2AQT7K8AT65 Playing strong NT 5cM , you open 1C after 2 passes. LHO passes, partner bids 1S, and RHO bids 2D. Let’s say you X, showing either 3-cd S in a non-minimal hand, or a stronger hand but not necessarily with 3S (eg 18-19 w/o D stopper). Partner bids 2S. What should you bid now? I chose 2NT to show strength and stopper so partner can be sure I have 3-cd support. But not sure if it is the best bid. Anyway, partner persists with 3S. What now? AL78
It sounds like partner holds a dirt minimum with a long spade suit, and is telling you his hand is only useful in a spade contract. Partner seems to be trying to play in a spade partscore, so I pass. Partner could have bid 4♠ at their second turn, and you have shown your hand once you bid 2NT.
Cyberyeti
What would 2♠ from partner have been first time ?
P_Marlowe
4S? You have a fit, partner did respond.I am not sure, what 2NT showes, bal. 15-17 is out, 15-17 6322 would is out as well, what is left? bal. 18+ with stopper? This would make the 3S bid forcing, leaving it to you to bid 3NT or 4S.Most likely due to this, 3S should also be 6+. P_Marlowe
4S? You have a fit, partner did respond. And if partner has a w2 in spadesI am going to bid game. I am not sure, what 2NT showes, bal. 15-17 is out, 15-17 6322 would is out as well, what is left? bal. 18+ with stopper?basically making the bid forcing, leaving it to you to bid 3NT or 4S.Most likely due to this, 3S should be 6+. apollo1201
What would 2♠ from partner have been first time ?He could have only 4 cards and prefer to play a 4-3 fit, than venture to the 3-level especially w/o tolerance for my 1st suit. And obviously no game interested or invitation so probably 8-9 at most.

It also says you deal, and you open 1♣ after 2 passes, which is it ?
apollo1201
I am not sure, what 2NT showes, bal. 15-17 is out, 15-17 6322 would is out as well, what is left? bal. 18+ with stopper?basically making the bid forcing, leaving it to you to bid 3NT or 4S.Most likely due to this, 3S should be 6+.It is a good question on follow up after « support » doubles. Not sure there is a consensus. Even on the support X. The way we play it is that it is not a non descript min bal with 3 spades. It is often unbalanced (or a pure 3325), non minimal. Can also be a 18-19 bal w/o stopper, or a strong 1-suiter too strong for a competitive bid of 3C. With minimal balanced hands, better let partner balance if they can, or defend, than oblige them to play a 4-3 fit with 2 flat hands and a combined 18 count. The 2NT bid direct is as unopposed (with stopper obviously). So I thought that having Xed first it shows now 18-19 bal with 3S and stopper. But I should have respected partner on this deal as 4S went down. Partner had warned me of a weak hand (5 small S, HK and CQJ). I thought all my points worked but the lead was DQ and the A was after dummy.
