trolley813
I had the following hand when playing SAYC-like with a robot:♠4 ♥108743 ♦KQJ7 ♣AQ10 Partner had♠AQ982 ♥QJ6 ♦A ♣K875 The bidding went as follows (I opened): 1♥ (12+ HCP with 5+ hearts) - 1♠ - 2♦ (good diamond suit, no spade fit) - and then North suddenly blasted to 6♥. Of course, for the obvious reasons (missing AK of trumps), it went down 1. So, why did North bid a slam without further investigating (Blackwood etc), since I didn't promise the strength of my heart suit (opposed to length)? Or maybe I shouldn't open with my long major being not good enough?

smerriman
Which robot are you playing with, out of interest? Doesn't sound like a very good one. Even GIB, the robot everyone loves to hate, bids 3♣, 4sf. You did nothing wrong.
sfi
So, why did North bid a slam without further investigating (Blackwood etc), since I didn't promise the strength of my heart suit (opposed to length)? Or maybe I shouldn't open with my long major being not good enough?6H is clearly ridiculous, but the auction is a problematic one. Say North bids 3C and you bid anything other than 3D - how does North set hearts and look for slam now? Here you're going to bid 3NT, and I don't know what GIB's options are at this point. A partnership needs good agreements to deal with a 4SF bid at the three-level, otherwise the auction may not be much more informative than the one the robot chose. johnu
For Russians, GIB plays the Putin Club system. Defenders should crash ♥A and ♥K on the same trick to avoid getting sent to a gulag in Siberia.
thepossum
I reckon opposite a half decent (even average) 5 card opening heart bid its not a bad attempt (very approx averagish 75% plus or minus a fair bit chance of double dummy), but even I at my lowly robot-type level like to check for some controls, and remove some of the error variance occasionally. Saadly also despite having a fairly healthy mean chance of making it the mean number of tricks is less than 12 (dont know why) Do people really expect 100% accuracy from anything human or robot I'm going to think twice opening a heart suit like that in future :)
Huibertus
Just a value bid. Checking for 2 missing keycards after calculating the partnershipo has the values isn't programmed I guess, the programmers don't play Bridge afterall. dsLawsd
Ouch. Robots tend to overuse point count (they double count honors + shortness). Something to be said for rebid of 1NT with 12-14. Worth considering suit quality in first or second seat. It sometimes is worth while passing this hand first, although it goes against the grain playing with a real partner1

(Even if ♥A&♥K are both in one defender's hand, they will crash on one trick when playing Putin Club system)

miamijd
The purpose of the 6H bid was to apprise you that you need to find better bots :) Cheers,Mike

I'm actually a programmer and I'm at least trying to play bridge.
