1. In fourth seat non-vul against vul u hear 1Sp, pass, pass - what do u bid?

2. If u bid anything but pass - what do u expect or hope to hear from p?

3. U bid 2Cl - partner bids 2NT - opps pass - now what?

1. I'm between 2c and 3c, maybe 2c is ok since the suit is not good.

2. Depends on pd's cards :-)

3. 3s showing spade shortness and some doubts about 3nt, if pd can bid 3nt then it should be a good contract, if pd can't bid 3nt and chooses 4c then that should be playable too.

1. Clear 2C bid. 3C would be strong in the balancing seat

2. In order of likelyhood, I expect

(a) P

(B) 2NT

© 3C

(d) 2S

I hope to hear 3C

3. I bid 3C

I don't expect that partner can establish my suit for NT

My hand is worth more tricks in a club contract than a NT contract

What do I bid in the balance seat? There seems to be three possible bids...

1- 3C

2- 2C

3- Dbl

3Clubs is a huge overbid on both value and quality of the suit. So I would never bid 3C with this hand.

2Clubs is just about right on value, and just about right on suit quality (the sixth club helps out with the poor spot). Against 2C, are only three demeritts. First, I would not want parnter leading away from the club ACE should he hold it and they play spades, and I actually have a great hand in support of either red suit, and 2C might easily have us miss a heart or diamond contract. Finally, if partner had a trap pass over 1S the only way to play 1Sx is for me to double here on this hand.

Dbl. The only demerit against dbl is that I lack a fourth heart and am about 1/2QT shy.

If I double, I hope to hear partner pass (yummy).

If I bid 2C and partner bids 2NT, I will pass as I am not vul, and there is no overt need to try to stretch to close games not vul.

Now for the question do I double or do I bid 2C. Well, I like to stay flexible, so I am doubling 1S with this hand in the balance seat, but I don't object at all to anyone who bids 2Cs.

If I could have, I would have found so good words like Ben. But after all is said:

1. X of course (respecting 2 Club from pd)

2. 7 NT or pass

3. After ...2 Club ... 2 NT I pass.

I should/wold accept the invitation with maximum or a very good suit. As I am lacking everything, I pass. Maybe 3 Club is better, but I doubt that...

Kind Regards

Roland

1) 2C - with a 4th heart i would double.

2) Expect a pass, hope for 3C.

3) Pass.

1) Dbl, what else? (look at 2)

2) I hope to hear "pass" from p. He might have a strong hand with spades so it's a penalty pass. Against vulnerable only -2 is good enough :)

3) Pass. If he had a strong hand with good stops in S, he should bid 2S and later on 3NT. I myself have no stop S, and no good suit to play... If I had the points from diamonds in clubs, then I'd probably bid 3NT.

Choice between X and 2C. 3C is out of the question - far too weak.

X is more flexible; against that I am not that happy if pd passes - he may very well overate a C holding, not expecting me to have 6. Also I am only going to be able to lead S once and my pd may get endplayed with lots of trumps.

1 bid 2C but would certainly not object if anyone doubled.

After 2NT, I rebid 3C.

Double has the advantage of setting up a penalty pass situation, but playing against quality opponents what are the odds of getting a reasonable result by passing. How are you going to feel when the auction comes back to you at 2D or 2H? I know that playing against quality opponents they are like to find better spot if we are going to get rich from 1S X.

I would bid 2C, as this is going to lead to the best spot in most situations. If partner has the penalty pass, then I'll be :) but I'll stand by the decision.

I'd be curious to see the likely conditional probability distributions this draws up after both 2C and a double - Sam and I are torn on this one (she likes the double, I like the free bid, but even in paradise everything can't be that harmonious)...

Double.

I have support for all suits. And my club suit isnt attractive enough for a self-expression mission.

I'd rather partner introduce a suit than pass 1S dbled as my lack of aces may hurt.

If i had called 2C, i would pass partner's 2NT as club support is not promised in such a sequence. He may have just a spade stack and be cheesed off at our choice in the balancing seat.
