IMP's for around the bridge table

Hi

 

With the COVID 19 lockdown our bridge moved onto BBO and we loved the IMP's. With the easing of lockdown, we are now meeting around the bridge table but are missing the IMP's. These really gave us an excellent indication as to whether we played the hand well or not.

 

The suggestion is to add a feature to BBO whereby when playing with real cards, each player photographs their hand and with this BBO then establishes the IMPs for that hand. Can this be done? Feasible?

Not really. To determine the IMP score for the hand, you need results at another table to compare your score against. If you're playing home bridge nobody else will hold the same cards, so there's no basis for comparison. Or are you suggesting that BBO could simply generate a score by having four robots play it?

Well that is a really good suggestion to get four robots to play it. There are also so many thousands of hands being played at any one time on BBO, the bridge table's real card hand could well be played by a number of on-line players simultaneously to obtain the IMPs.

There are more possible bridge hands than atoms in the universe. Chances are you will never get a hand dealt at home that matches a hand dealt on bbo

 

if you get 4 packs of cards, you could get historical hands and make them up yourselves and then score them against what was achieved at the original event

You can use the Deal Source feature. Choice 2 is for random ViewGraph hands which show the results of their event with IMPS. Option 3 is to specify a particular event such as the 2011 Bermuda Bowl. Naturally these IMPS may be skewed if played only 2 or 3 times. But you can see how they bid and played them and that can improve your own judgment.

I enjoy that with 3 robots instead of solitaire practice. The deals come in sets of 16...

Why not have all the players bring a laptop or tablet (or even cell phone) to your game and you can all play online.
