RONF it says on the GIB system notes - and it sure is annoying.

This hand just came up at Matchpoints here is the bidding and the South hand. for 100% (only 2 other people playing in this tourney) what's your call?

The opps and partner are GIB.

[hv=pc=n&s=sj4hkq74dacaqjt72&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=3dp4d]133|200[/hv]

Here's what I did and the result:

[hv=pc=n&s=sj4hkq74dacaqjt72&w=skt6h8dkq98542c98&n=s7532haj52d7ck543&e=saq98ht963djt63c6&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=3dp4d4nppp]399|300[/hv]

and here's the link.

My bid was not alerted by GIB, I was expecting North to bid 5. I think that I've done this before.

I would probably double intending to pull 4 to 5, in this case I play 4.

You got slightly lucky in 3 ways:

1) 5 is only -1

2) 4N can be beaten

3) on a non spade lead, you only can't make 12 tricks in hearts because they're 4-1

I'd probably bid 5 instead of 4 with the E hand, now what do you do ?

Well, now it's a hypothetical question since that's not an action that GIB would take, and I've already seen the solution.

If I was playing FTF I would do something different. I thought for a long time about doubling, GIB has a history of passing doubles even at the 2 level. About as trustworthy as a politician.

If hearts are 3-2, how do you make 12 tricks on a non-spade lead? There are 11 top tricks, I can't see a ruff anywhere because there are not enough spade discards on the clubs. There is no squeeze on, both opponents can hold on to two spades. Where is the 12th trick?

Sorry, you are correct, when I see a 10 in a long suit I tend to see it as 2 cards on the hand viewer hence thought there were 3 discards.

++++++++++++++++++++

I rank ...

1. Double = T/O -- and then, over 4, 5 -- as CyberYeti suggests.

2. 5 = NAT "Put your faith in the long suit".

3. 4 = NAT And get some practice playing 4-2 fits :)

4. 4NT = ART 2 suited. But length disparity is too great.

5. Pass = NAT Ultra timid. "It's a bidders' game".[/hv]

Sir,

I shall bid 5C with a little tremor.It means pushing them to a makable 5D perhaps .Passing is a bit timid.Doubling is atrocious. I shall not elaborate more on that aspect.This is my answer as to what I shall bid on the table.I am not used to imagining what partner can hold.I make my natural bid.

The way we play it a double shows major suiters hand.A bid of 5 over 4 response is a cue bid AND NOT A LONG suit.Does not cover all but neither does any other bid/bids which covers all combinations.THANKS
