Rude players

Just to share an unpleasant BBO experience

I had an unsolicited message from someone

Stranger X: I am a mentor in my club in California. Do you want to play with me?

I: which game?

stranger X: I have many mentees. I can follow your conventions.

Speedy game in 40 minutes

I: ok

Stranger X: Then invite me.

I: no thank you

Stranger X: Fine. You are only Regional. Not even lifemaster.

Is this considered rude?

I just joined ACBL in June 2019 and being a foreign player, I am able to become regional master due to covid-19. In normal times, there is no way to become even a club master without ACBL virtual game or SYC black points game

There's rudeness, and there's silliness. This sounds like someone with the mental age of a 12-year-old. If it was real life I would offer them a dog biscuit and walk away.

PS - that's scorn.

I don't understand why you said ok but then refused to invite. Was he expecting you to pay for him or something?

Yeah, that was what you thought was a conversation and he thought was a sales pitch. He also thought it was obvious because "everybody" knows how this works (that he talks to, and that have figured it out).

A reasonable response would be similar to someone offering you a ride, and finding out it was an Uber driver - "Thanks, but I'm not looking for that right now." and go away.

Sales people are always rude. Polite sales people don't get sales. That's why I'm in tech. Telling people they're not good doesn't seem to be the right way to sell to me, but again, that's why I'm in tech.

A spectrum of understanding? A glimmer of hope? smile.gif
