Winstonm
[hv=d=n&v=b&s=sakq1086hkj5dk9ckj]133|100|Scoring: IMPNo opposing bidding, and partner in first seat opens with a weak 2D. Regardless of whose methods are superior, here's what you are stuck playing: 2D=6-11 with no constraints on suit quality except judgement verses red/white situation; 2N is Ogust; 2S is support ask, and partner will bid 3D after which 3S is passable; new minors are non-forcing. What's your bid/plan?[/hv]
reisig
I would certainly start with 2N
Winstonm
2N will get a bad suit, good hand response. Bad suit defined as less than AJ9xxx, and good hand defined as 9-11, with judgement applied.
shoeless
Any chance your pard would pre-empt with 2 bullets?
Winstonm
Any chance your pard would pre-empt with 2 bullets? Honestly say I don't know - perhaps is the best I can do.
luke warm
i think he has the ♠J, the ♥A, the ♦Q,J and the ♣Q i'd bid 4♠...
Fluffy
Obviously start with 2♠, is 3♦ singleton/void? then we clearly beling to 4♠.
whereagles
I'm gonna be practical and bid a straight 4♠ :o Opps will lead C/H and blow the 10th trick

beatrix45
:( I think this calls for the TIRE TOOL plan. If they give you any sh*t, hit'em with the tire tool. Bid 4 ♠ and get it over with.
PMetsch
I cannot find out if partner has 2 aces (at least not below 3NT) and I will not play in a partscore. I don't have much aces, but a strong suit and stoppers, so I bid 3NT.
Guest Jlall
2N. Since that is what I would open (LOL). If he shows a good suit then 3N should be better than 4S.
Al_U_Card
I use 3C as the singleton ask. If he responds singleton spade then i bid 3NT, if not then 4S.
Winstonm
Well, at the table I couldn't think of anything intelligent to do, and although a lot of HCPs, my hand isn't all that wonderful so I simply bid what I thought we could make: 4S. Partner's hand: xx, xxx, AJ8xxx, Ax. The possession of the 10 of spades in my hand makes this a worthwhile slam - but, I guess no one can bid them all. :) WinstonM
hrothgar
I'm going to bid a practical 3NTEither Spades or Diamonds wil come home. So be it if partner bid 2♦ with a pair of bullets
flytoox
I would just bid 3N. We have no slam. Why waste time to ask?
Walddk
Could you perhaps have a word with your partner about not pre-empting with two aces? Another example of how it's impossible to judge anything if you do. Pre-empts should be pre-empts. They are not constructive in my world and they are not supposed to be. Much too much on defence, he had. If he doesn't like to open 1♦, fair enough, but then pass is miles better than 2♦ in my opinion. Fluffy
I use 3C as the singleton ask. If he responds singleton spade then i bid 3NT, if not then 4S. I think 4♠ is better than 3NT when partner has 1♠ than when he has 2.
Winstonm
Could you perhaps have a word with your partner about not pre-empting with two aces? Roland, if you ever had the "pleasure" of telling Ira Rubin he was "wrong", then you understand the position I am in, LoL. Sometimes, for partnership harmony, you just have to let the Bull have his way. But on occassion, I want to double check that I'm not the one who is nuts. B) However, he can be tamed if you beat on him long and hard enough - have to get his attention first - after all, you convinced him finally that 2C was the right bid from one of my previous posts.
