smerriman
Should I decline crazy4hoop's challenge now, or should I wait for him to cancel it?You can see the timestamp of when the challenge finishes when you click on it - if it's a very tight timeframe as is likely, reject and issue a new one. smerriman
Hi - I have completed a challenge with tim_ucin.Have challenged GIB and povratnik but they have not accepted. When you challenge a robot you can play it immediately. Are you sure you followed the instructions in the first post, rather than attempting to challenge a human named GIB?*Pools A and C should use "challenge a robot" to complete the challenge against GIB. pilowsky
Thanks Stephen. I have never competed in anything before except regular Club games.I started playing in Feb 2019. So the ins and outs of competitive Bridge are a complete mystery to me.Here is the screenshot. I 'friended' Gisele first to check that she was a person so I thought she was human, but who can tell?It won't let me start until they 'accept'. Stephen Tu
pilowsky hit the "challenge a robot" button to play the actual robot GIB. You can ignore the challenge against the human person who has chosen "gib" as her username and still play the robot, even when she hasn't accepted yet as that is just a separate challenge. You weren't supposed to challenge her, though you can play her for fun if she accepts your challenge.

smerriman
Round 1 has finished - while twisterrz's two remaining challenges + pilowsky's challenge against GIB were not reported, they have been completed and added. Round 2 has been added. Cherdano is unluckily eliminated from Group A due to losing his head to head match with GIB (whose clone managed to knock me out at the last moment also). Both GIBs therefore qualify for Round 2. If you have challenges remaining against both of them, your first challenge will be scored against GIB1, with your second challenge against GIB 2. The deadline for round 2 is September 4, 11:59pm EST.

Isn't there some merit in this?

mythdoc
I’m not surprised that both robots qualified, for a few reasons, but I’ll share this experience: having played relatively few challenges, and being relatively new to BBO, I played a LOT of practice boards against GIB, in an effort to discern whether aggressive bidding and/or psyching could be turned to advantage. I found that (with the exception of a few hand types) it was counterproductive to do either. For instance, GIB’s preempts tend to be very solid — much more solid than the style my partner and I play. I found that making a weaker preempt (again, with exceptions) tended to backfire because robot pard’s next bid was so unpredictable. Non best hand format I found to be thoroughly enjoyable, though I still can’t believe the ratio of boards that led to games vs. part scores. Random distribution let’s say. I think I only had one round out of 10 where I felt that there was the expected number of part scores per round.

sfi
Out of curiosity, how will the GIB 1 vs. GIB 2 match be scored?Even if you could run it, are there any variables that would lead to anything but an 8-8 draw? From my limited understanding of the way the robots work, if you give them consistent data (bids, played cards) they should come up with the same answer for what to do next. I may be wrong, but I would think the result has to be identical.
