Kaapo
I resently found out that typing a tilde (~) in the alert explanation adds a line break to it. Is this intentional or just accidental? As fas as I remember, tilde is a special character in lin files used with questions. (Did a little experimenting with lin files a while ago.) If this is how it's supposed to be, a lot more text, divided in many lines, could be used in the explanations as the 40 characters or so, which is the limit at present. BBO won't let me type in a longer text even though the client would be able to show it. Not sure if extra room is needed, but it might be useful at times. uday
I'm guessing it is not deliberate

jillybean
Cute tilde ~ . It works. We can now call it a feature :)
uday
We can call it an accident waiting to happen, if it hoses the server Best to stay off its use until F tells us it is ok
hrothgar
For what its worth, I'd dearly love to be able to use the ~ in our alert strings. The ~ is the most concise way to explain that HCP provide only a rough approximation of strength. For example, my alert for out 1♦ opening is Artificial. ~9-14 HCP, 4+!H, might have longer minor
fred
This ~ is used in some of our educational CD-ROMs so in a sense this is an "intentional" feature. It will not cause any harm to BBO so feel free to use it if you wish, but I am going to disable it for purposes of online play in the next version. Maybe one day we will expand the 40 characters (or whatever it is) limit for an alert explanation... Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention.
