pearl1952
When you select Casual, and then Start A Table, what is the difference between a Relaxed vs. a Competitive game? There is a great, pop-up box that sometimes displays after one bids that shows what that bid typically specifies. An example might be if I opened with 2 clubs, the box would say that I have either a Balanced Hand and 22+ HCP's or an Unbalanced Hand and 21+ HCP's.I see this sometimes, but sometimes not. Is there a way to turn it ON or OFF? Also, on this discussion forum, is there way to change preferences so the Option to Enable Email Notifications is checked by default? I don't know why you would not want to notified of a response if you created a topic.
paulg
There is no functional different between tables in the Main Bridge Club and the Relaxed Bridge Club. Originally there was just Main Bridge Club. After a few years BBO introduced the Relaxed Bridge Club, which I believe was done to provide a less competitive environment and perhaps avoid the worst excesses of competitiveness that was occasionally seen at tables. If a player, or pair, were happy to face more serious players, typically with more complicated systems and conventions, then they'd go to the Main Bridge Club. I don't know that it has ever made a significant difference, but at least the nomenclature sets an expectation. I believe results are only compared from other tables within the club you are playing. I don't know why you would not want to notified of a response if you created a topic. You can change preferences under Settings/Notification Options/Notification Preferences.I for one would not want to be notified of responses by email, it's not urgent and I don't want my mail cluttered up. If you left click on your name top right you get the option "My Content" which makes it easy to see what is happening on topics you created. Unfortunately the forum is not so good for following interesting topics or hiding uninteresting sub-forums, but it's old and nobody is going to change it.
