opening structure

Recommended Posts

I need input on this set of opening bids, particularly:

1) are there any hands that this set makes difficult/impossible to bid?

2) are there any bids here that are not GCC acceptable?

3) I'm undecided on where to stick 19-21 balanced hands - either as a 2N rebid after one of the minor opens, or as part of the 2 multi... ideas?

I ask for your help because I am worried I'm overlooking something very simple that will screw me later, and because the GCC convention chart has always perplexed me (am I the only one that finds it vague?)

Thanks!

1 [13+, better minor] OR [13-15, balanced (1N rebid)]

1 [13+, better minor] OR [16-18, balanced (1N rebid)]

1M [8-12, 4+ carder]

1N [10-12, balanced]

2 [9+ tricks in either major]

2 [weak 2 in either major] OR [22+, balanced (2N rebid)]

2M [13-18, 5+ carder, unbalanced]

2N [6-11, 5/5 or better minors]

i was afraid you'd say that about 2, but in retrospect the weak 2 majors are somewhat unnecessary because of the way majors are opened, so i think i'm ok.

as for the 19+ major, i need to work out how often a 19+ major is gonna come up that isn't balanced and not good enough for a 2 and uncap the 2M opens accordingly i guess

thanks!

You could perhaps fix this by playing:

2 = 5-card major, 19+ but not enough for 2, or some balanced range.

Curiously, this is okay on the general chart, as any 2-level opening which shows a strong hand (guarantees 15+ hcp) will be allowed.
