Chat to Tournament Before it starts

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to chat to everyone registered for a tournament before the tournament actually starts? For me, neither Chat->Tournament from the director's menu, nor picking Tournament in the regular chat window seems to do anything (before the tournament has started)

On a related question is there a way to chat to a list of usernames?

No, there's no way to chat to a multiple usernames or tourney registrants.

When the tourney starts there's usually a blast sent to all the tables, this is the usual way to reach all registrants.

Is there a way to set up a multi-line blast to all the tables during tournament creation, or using chat just after the start?

I have often seen tournaments blast multiple lines of chat at the beginning but do not know how it is done.

Tournament creation just seems to expect a single line of text (maybe there is some escape sequence to create newlines).

Tournaments that we create automatically on a schedule, like all the speedballs and virtual club tournaments, have a blast message in the settings. I don't think there's anything equivalent when you create a tourney by hand, so the TD just has to use "Chat->Tournament" after the game starts.

Next time a director uses the blast method, ask them how they did it. It may be that they have a special gadget or BBO have given them an extra facility.

To 'blast' to all participants, after tourney has started, you can use the 'chat manager' to set up what you want to send, prior to the tournament.

An interesting option can also be found in the directors forum under 'Input Director Phrases for Tournaments''.

Allows you to type pre-set letters to type whole phrases.

ie: typing the letters 'bbi' to input 'Welcome to *** Bridge Club. Please play promptly when it is your turn. Everyone please be polite. Let's have a fun evening.'

or typing 'bb1' to input 'This evening, we are playing 6 rounds of 3 boards @ 7 minutes each, 21min per round. This tournament uses pre-dealt hands. Your convention card will default to SAYC if it is not set to something else.'

You can use "Chat->Tournament" before the tournament starts. But it will only go to players who are in the tourney lobby, not everyone who is registered.

I didn't appreciate that. Have been wasting my time. Gutted.

It would be helpful to have a facility to contact all on the Custom List, for example. Saves all the faffing.

Have tried to understand computer programming but sadly, beyond my brain. Even in lockdown, all the time in the World, is not going to help.

Keep safe

This has been improved. If you chat to tournament, it will go to everyone who has registered in the tournament, even if they've left the tourney lobby. You can send these chats before the tourney starts and for a few minutes after it ends.

For the last days I've been getting two copies when I use the Chat to Tournament either as a player or from the directors tab. Output looks like:

>tournament: Thanks for directing

>tournament (*2934):Thanks for directing

All the chat to tournament appears this way. Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

Peter
