aisha759
Hi Uday (hopefully you are the right person to talk to)Ever since i downloaded this version of BBO i have had problems... I found myslelf freezing (getting stuck) while playing and kibbitzing.. i.e. waiting for a player to make a bid or play a card when they had already done so... when chatting, privately, to kibbers or table, there is a delay... if i stick around long enough, all goes back to normal... if i log off and come back on again, its quite slow... during vugraph, Vegas, and Houston, my problem was amplified... Tonight, it is just as bad, and i couldnt continue playing in a tournament i had registered in.... I checked my RAM and its 248, so I think that is plenty... I shared my problem with steve (2over1) who mentioned he had terrible problems 2 versions ago, and once he upgraded his RAM from 128 to 512 all his troubles were solved... I thought maybe my problems were due to my server, but everything else seems to work well, MSN, YAHOO, internet explorer etc..... the only problem seems to be with BBO... am I the only one experiencing this problem? Have you had any other complaints? I had the occasional "freezing" syndrome on bbo before, and I blamed it on server....... i am now finding it impossible to cope, as it is continuous... I hope you can help me in finding a solution or at least a good reason as to why you think this is happening.....I am extremely frustrated... i am hoping it will resolve itself eventually, but if there is a solution or a reason, it would help me tremendously...... I hope i was able to describe this properly :) Thank you in advance ;) aisha
luke warm
boy i sure hope uday or someone can help, i hate to see little fifi both frustrated *and* frozen... well, what's-his-name has that effect on her, but for my money that's a *good* thing ;)
uday
You can revert to the old version (417) with this link http://online.bridgebase.com/download/417_bbo_setup.exe I fear it wont help, but it is worth trying. I have told the system to avoid upgrading you to v4.25 You can come back to 425 with this linkhttp://online.bridgebase.com/download/425_bbo_setup.exe Let me know -- uday@ -- if it made a difference. Email me anyway. If you can edit a file on your pc using notepad, there may be something worth trying.

42
Hi Uday! I am sorry to say that but I have exactly the same problems like Aisha. Recently I played a tourney, got freezed, logged out and in and had to restart my PC which crashed then completely (for the first time ever, windows XP home). Since that day I have severe problems with my PC when booting. I didn't do anything else but the things I usually do: checking emails and play on BBO.... I checked for a virus but didn't find any. Greetings from frozen Caren
hotShot
I also noticed a change in BBO's behaviour. It is my impression that i sometimes get several bids or played cards at once.If i play a card, sometimes nothing seems to happen and than all of a sudden I'm in the next trick. I need to review the last trick, to know what cards the others played. Can it be that due to the server load (i saw up to 7500 user online) the client/server connection can be interrupted, so that data have to be rerequested or the programm could freeze if the connection is stuck? aisha759
I also thought my problem was due to overload, and yes i noticed close to 8000 users... but last night there were only 3500 and the problems continued... I have just downloaded the old version which Uday suggested 4.1.7, and kibbed a few hands, and i noticed a big difference... speed was back to normal, everything was moving in tempo... I am not sure i can judge from just 2 boards, but will spend some more time trying this one out... i do miss teleportation :) I also have the problems 42 and hotshot mentioned, they seemed to have described what i was trying to explain :) Aisha
uday
You can try this version if you are curious. http://www.bridgebase.com/427beta/bbo_setup.exe This is the same as 425, with some bugfixes. FG thinks that there is (ought to be) no reason that 417 or 425 differ in basic things like this, but it won't hurt to try it. Ideally, you'd rename the 417 version of BBO to (say) 417_netbridgevu.exe before installing 427. Then you can use either version by clicking on 417_netbridgevu.exe or netbridgevu.exe
uday
42: I don't see how we could be affecting your PC's booting. BBO touches almost nothing outside its own folder.
aisha759
I downloaded 4.2.7 yesterday, and it actually worked perfectly... maybe some of the bugfixes were fixed :)Unfortunately this wasn't the case today... same freezing problems, and i had to disconnect many times... logging into BBO is not a problem at all.. as a matter of fact its quite fast, and once i come back, everything runs smoothly..... it could be because of vugraph though.... so i am keeping my fingers crossed that it was an isolated problem... I did notice a difference with 4.2.7... Thank you for your help Uday... much appreciated... at least i have something to go back to if things dont get better... aisha
aisha759
Hi Uday;I had the same problems with 4.2.7 as 2.5.... i reinstalled 4.1.7 and tried it for a long time, to no avail... same thing as the others.... the good news is, the problem is obviously not due to the new versions... i am hoping it will fix itself... unless someone can come up with a solution.. I didnt understand what you meant by "If you can edit a file on your pc using notepad, there may be something worth trying. " I am not computer litterate, so i couldnt figure out what I am supposed to do here... I'm such a nuisance :)Aisha
julie5607
Aisha - I don't mean to bring up something too obvious here, but have you made sure that your system is clean? By that I mean do you have updated and regularly run virus protection, and just as importantly have you installed and run a few spyware removal applications? Your symptoms sound to me like what happens when there is too much going on at a time on your computer, and it is possible that you are unaware of some of it. If you haven't checked for this type of stuff, I can assure you it is prevalent all over the net right now and it may well be the root of your problem. There is a ton of free software/advice on how to fix it, and also a ton of bad software out there as well, so you need to be careful. You can start by following the instructions at this link: http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm Feel free to message me if you have any questions. aisha759
Hi Julie :)I appreciate your input... i do all the things you mentioned in your post, but will go to the link you gave me nonetheless...Ever since I downloaded 4.2.7 I am not facing the same amount of freezing as before... it could be a coincidence.... I have a feeling it may have had something to do with my connection which was slow for a few weeks and not BBO... thanks againAisha
uday
We have tweaked the BBO network to use more conservative settings . In theory this should lead to slightly slower but more stable connections for some users. Anyone who has previously edited his ini file to point at blah.linode.com can change the ini file to point back at bbo.bridgebase.com. If you don't know what this is about, it is not relevant to you. u
42
Hi!This post if not of any importance but... First of all: BBO works constantly fine!In another posting I wrote that I have problems with my PC since it once crashed. I defraged the harddisk, loaded driver updates and, and, and, the problem with booting (it took about 5 minutes to start windows) was still there. I asked some people who are more expert than me (not hard to find...), nobody had an idea what caused the trouble, one said I need to reinstall windows. Yesterday I "repaired" my PC on my own :D We had a thunderstorm here and I threw the plug for some hours :D Life can be so easy, folks! Have a nice day!Caren
