morganwilk
Set up a pairs tournament, had 18 pairs registered, tournament failed to start with all registered pairs getting message "Error=Too many teams". Tried to redo tournament (twice) but each time this error message appeared. Any idea what the problem is?
morganwilk
I'm assuming that there are limits now of 20 pairs. Is there documentation anywhere that lists limits? It is a bit frustrating to set up a tournament and only find when it starts that you have exceeded a limit.
Sir John D
This has happened to my tournaments, too. I can only imagine that the BBO IT Team are unable to fix the problem as they have to manage so many problems at the moment. There was a comment dated 1st April about people from the UK only organising tournaments during the night (UK time), which I thought was an April Fool. Perhaps, BBO is trying to tell me something . . . Keep safe
criptik
The "Too Many Teams" error happened to me twice today. Here are some detailsHad 9 pairs registered. Tournament was configured for maximum 12 pairs, 18 boards, 2 boards per round. This failed with "Too Many Teams".Set up new tournament and told people to re-register. I believe we only got 8 pairs registered the 2nd time. Tournament was configured identically maximum 12 pairs, 18 boards, 2 boards per round. Again got "Too Many Teams"Tried one last time to again set up new tournament and told people to re-register. This time we got the 9 pairs registered like we had the first time. Configured tournament for maximum 10 pairs, 14 boards, 2 boards per round (basically because we had wasted time with the two rejected tournament starts. This time the tournament started OK. (with a sitout because we had 9 pairs but that was expected). So I don't know whether changing the maximum pairs from 12 to 10 was significant or whether it was changing the boards from 18 to 14. Neither of these changes makes sense as something that would get rid of the error. If someone knows of heuristics that would eliminate this error, that would be great. Also, BBO folks, it would be nice if one got a warning earlier rather than the tournament just failing to start.

When this failure happened do you remember what the configured values were for boards and boards per round?
diana_eva
This errors appears when there are too many players online. It's not related to the tournament settings. When BBO is maxed out, some tournaments and team matches simply cannot start and get cancelled automatically at start. Check how many players online. If it's over 50,000 it's not you, it's overload. 0 carbon
Still problems outside the 11am-4pm blackout period for new tourneys. GlobalClub has had half a dozen tourneys cancelled in the last week.

Happened to us in two consecutive attempts today, the first time there were a bit less than 50,000 and the second time exactly 50,000.I don't always check the number of players online but I suspect we have previouly run successfully at over 50,000, though. Would there be any place where one can look up the average number of BBO players online for a given time?

pescetom
The number online between GMT+3 and GMT+4 has increased radically in the last few days.I understand that EBU and the French Federation are now running BBO virtual clubs, is that correct? It would probably explain the sudden change. Sorry, I meant some way too look up historical usercount data. This could help when selecting a time to schedule a free tournament.

julp
Today at 14:45 GMT (inside the allowed time frame) I set up a pairs tournament, 12 boards, 6 rounds of 2 with a max number of tables set to 40. I had 18 pairs registered, tournament failed to start with all registered pairs getting message "Error=Too many teams". Tried to redo same tournament with max 20 tables got the same error message.Anyone can give me any idea what was wrong or it's just some bug? I have repeatedly had the same problem, once getting a 3.00pm game going on the fourth attempt at 3.55pm. It seems that if there are over 46,000 players on-line at the start of the tournament you may well experience problems. The earlier you start, the better your chances... barmar
Sometimes we have to perform manual intervention when the number of players and tables is close to our system limit, in addition to the automatic blocking of free tournaments during the designated periods. Our management has decreed that paying customers always take precedence.
