Vampyr
I have recently been playing in the EBU tournaments and Lockdown League. So there will be few, if any, unfamiliar partnerships. Yet nobody has a convention card. We have ours posted all the time, and the only time we saw a card posted for the opponents, it was not actually their card at all. I know that posting here will not make a huge difference because probably not many of the EBU players read these forums, but there might be a few and I hope they will take the trouble to create a convention card. It is a very simplified card, so it will not take a great deal of effort.
cherrydown
Yesterday when playing something very disconcerting happened. I was dummy and partner was playing a hand. My LHO made a first discard of 9C. I wondered what this meant so looked at the opps convention card. It showed that they played standard. However as play proceeded it turned out that LHO did not have any significant clubs. After the hand I asked about the discard of the 9C and was told it was upside down. In fact opponent didn't know anything about BBO convention cards. I would prefer if, in ACBL tournaments, BBO does not post a convention card unless it is to be played with that specific partner. This would be much fairer than posting an erroneous convention card.

People playing with less-regular partners may have to post an erroneous convention card until they have a chance to create a new one on BBO. Safest just to ask. barmar
If this was a speedball, there's an announcement at the beginning that anyone without a convention card is automatically assigned the SAYC card. So if you click on the CC and see that, it usually means that it was assigned by default. So it's a good idea to check. Most pairs who play anything unusual and don't have a posted convention card are courteous and describe their basic approach in a chat message when the round starts. However, there are lots of new online players these days, and many of them may not be familiar with traditions like this. Please try to be forgiving.
