Precision 2C opening

Recommended Posts

I've been worried a bit about the precision 2C opening (5 clubs 4M or 6+ clubs, not (43)15 or 4405). Specifically, how to play these sequences

2C 3C

2C 2D

2M 3C

2C 2NT

How do other people do it? The problem is, how I see it, is how to show invitational hands with support, pre-emptive hands and forcing hands that don't want to bypass 3NT.

Have a look at the WJ05 document. The responses are something like this...

2D Inv+ enquiry, GF single suiters bid their suit at the next turn

2M Nat constructive NF

2N puppet to 3C, either weak raise or GF 2 suiter

all 3 level bids natural inv

I see Rodwell has often said, "you should be worried, precision 2clubs is our worst bid" Unless he has changed, he only opens this with 6clubs now and has dropped the 5 club option. Throws rest into 1D I guess.

i noticed you said 4M 5C but not (43)15 or 4405... this leaves 4225, i would reccomend you treat that as balanced so that 2C is always 6+ clubs.

Hi, i have played Precision for some years and i could say that simple things could be the best:)

2C 3C Preemtive raise but invitational when VUL

2C 2D

2MAJ 3C nonforcing, opener bids on with max

2NT relay , gameforcing

2C 2NT nat inv usually without C supp.

All fancy things like 2NT as Preemtive raise or gameforcing 55 hands are ok but 55 hands after 2 C openings are very rare anyway, and to loose frequent nat 2NT is a loss.Cheers!

2C can also be (41)35 in Mark's system.

I play Precision and unless the 41(or 14) 3 5 hand had 14/15 with almost all the points in the clubs and majors I would open then 1 also
