BID OR PASS ?

Recommended Posts

SOUTH holds J5-AQ43-AK6-AKQ10. This is board 12 0n July 08,2019 in a TEAM match of 4 world class players on the table.West opens 1NT(15/17) and it goes 1NT-P-2C-? Should South PASS or bid..WHAT? If South passes the bidding goes P-2D-P-P. Now what are the conventions or gadgets to deal with this situation. On the table West played in 2D just making..

What is agreement about a double of 2? If you play it to show clubs, you probably have to pass on the first round. Some use double to show values, which makes it easier to show the hand. Having passed, you have to double 2.

I would X 2 whether it was clubs or big, the style we play partner won't freely raise this even though it shows clubs, it's primarily lead directing initially.

Yes double is fine with that agreement. Lead directing is only a secondary objective for us and partner will "raise" preemptively with clubs - never believing that I am this strong...

I don't see why S *has* to do anything. The best hand parter can have is one queen. A zero count is quite possible. The K is sitting behind us. We have no suit. I would expect to take the same number of tricks defending as declaring.

Partner can easily have something like xxxx, J10xxx, xx, xx where 4 is just cold and also plenty of hands where say they make 2 and you make 3

No he can't. THINK!

E obviously is doing some sort of garbage/crawling stayman, so 3+,more likely 4, and W has at least two. Parter cannot have 5 hearts on this auction, ever. I would be highly surprised by even 4.

I was thinking he might be 4252 and using the puppet transfer to 2 prepared to play 2 on a 5-2. Yes if it's normal stayman he can't have 5 hearts but can have 4. xxx, J10xx, x(x), Jxxx(x) is still possible.

So the deal was [hv=pc=n&s=sj5haq43dak6cakqt&w=sak8hkj9dqj754cj8&n=sqt743h82d92c9653&e=s962ht765dt83c742]399|300[/hv]

Looks like it may have neen somewhat misdefended unless W played totally double dummy, but you can make 4 (5 unless defence is sharp) or a lucky 4 so you want to be in a partscore in a black suit.

1N-P-2-X will depend what W does, what the double means and what the agreements are for the bids over it, but if it shows clubs I'd expect it to be played in 3-5.
