ahydra
Matchpoints. You are vul, they're not. Good standard opps. [hv=pc=n&n=sthaqj853d9cj9752&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=2s(5S%204%2Bm)]133|200[/hv] 2S = PRE, 5S and 4+ in an unspecified minor If you pass, then how about now? mikeh
The late Grant Baze had a Bols Bridge Tip (the older NA set here may recall that series of articles in the Bulletin), in which he said '6-5, come alive' This hand is an easy pass of 2S if 6=4, but with 6=5, it is too dangerous to pass. Bid 3H. Sure, partner will think you hold more values, but passing is losing bridge.....and I am known as a conservative bidder.
FelicityR
The late Grant Baze had a Bols Bridge Tip (the older NA set here may recall that series of articles in the Bulletin), in which he said '6-5, come alive' I have the Complete Book of Bols Bridge Tips in my library but can't find the reference, although for 10 years between 1977-1986 none are listed (?) Here is the late Grant Baze's tip. http://advocate.district8acbl.com/apr09/baze.htm
AL78
It looks like East and South (partner) have decent hands, so I would be tempted with 3S (hearts + minor). It doesn't require that much from partner for 4H, or even 5C to make if we have a good fit. If I did that at the table, it would doubtless be one of those misfit hands where each one of the partnership both ways has the opposite two suiter to their partner, and I go for -800, but you win some, you lose some. Tramticket
For most, 3S would primarily be an attempt to find a stop for 3NT. The major minor two-suiter would be shown through Leaping Michaels (but thus would be a MUCH stronger hand). I think that you have to bid 3H here, otherwise you find partner passing with a strong hand and too many spades.
