If you test trump, easr has J98. Since the hand is cold if diamonds behave, assume they don't...which the auction suggests anyway[/hv] This hand was given to me by a friend, and I am unsure of where he got it from. I apologize if it has already been posted here or at BridgeWinners. I thought it one of the more interesting hands I've seen in years. Cyberyeti
It looks like the problem is something like: [hv=pc=n&s=shakq753dakt75cat&w=st943h4dj982c7643&n=sk62ht62dq63cq852&e=saqj875hj98d4ckj9&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=1sd3sp4s6hppp]399|300[/hv] but if it is, GIB says you can't make it, so how do we amend it so you can ? smerriman
but if it is, GIB says you can't make it, so how do we amend it so you can ?If you move the jack of clubs to West, then the line to make is very cool, but I'm not saying anything since all I did was look at it in double dummy. Whether East opens that hand 1♠, I don't know.
manudude03
This hand is in Bridge Master (World Class A-20), with the pips changed. The recommended line was CY's layout with the ♣J in the other hand. You ruff the spade, and cash 2 rounds of trumps. Now cash 3 rounds of diamonds ending in dummy, East cannot afford to ruff or he will be endplayed. Now ruff a spade then play a fourth diamond throwing the last spade. Whoever decides to win it will be endplayed.

mikeh
This is indeed a beautiful problemThat's what I thought when it was given to me. Had I had it at the table, I very much doubt that I would have made the contract....as it was, because I 'knew' there was a solution, I did solve it, but not in any time that makes any sense at the table. Lovely problem.

Indeed the late George S Coffin, who wrote the book ""ENDPLAYS in Bridge",would have thoroughly enjoyed this one.Sir,thanks a lot for posting this one.
