This hand was given to me by a friend, and I am unsure of where he got it from. I apologize if it has already been posted here or at BridgeWinners. I thought it one of the more interesting hands I've seen in years.

This hand is in Bridge Master (World Class A-20), with the pips changed. The recommended line was CY's layout with the J in the other hand.

You ruff the spade, and cash 2 rounds of trumps. Now cash 3 rounds of diamonds ending in dummy, East cannot afford to ruff or he will be endplayed. Now ruff a spade then play a fourth diamond throwing the last spade. Whoever decides to win it will be endplayed.

This is indeed a beautiful problem

That's what I thought when it was given to me. Had I had it at the table, I very much doubt that I would have made the contract....as it was, because I 'knew' there was a solution, I did solve it, but not in any time that makes any sense at the table.

I also tried at least two failing lines when I eventually solved it on Bridge Master. Lovely problem.

Sir,this is a beautiful yet relatively tough hand at the table. Indeed the late George S Coffin, who wrote the book ""ENDPLAYS in Bridge",would have thoroughly enjoyed this one.Sir,thanks a lot for posting this one.
