I unhestitatingly recommend this book to all novices and intermediate players asit shows the thought processes of an expert declarer and and highlights what bridge is all about, deduction, detection and inference. You are South, declarer in 4♠ West leads the K♥ When dummy goes down, you see there is a sure trump loser, the A♦ is missing and the lead has opened up twofurther heart losers. Assess the hand and plan the play.?

Jannerston wrote an interesting trilogy on card-play...-- The only chance -- the above deal might not fit the title, as there seem to be several lines. e.g. a simple ♥A, ♣A, ♠K, ♣JK (finessing and discarding a ♥), ♦ to Q, ♠A, ♦ to K ...-- With open cards -- double-dummy problems,-- Play safe and win -- safety-plays.[/hv]
Cyberyeti
The simplest line would appear to be to play for: [hv=pc=n&w=s98hkqt43da5c8765&e=sqjthj7djt98cqt42]266|100[/hv] or similar (W can be 3-3 in the minors), I duck the first heart, win the second, hook the club and dispose of a heart then play a diamond up, if the diamond K holds, I play 2 rounds of trumps back to hand and another diamond
Lovera
You make 10 Tricky with 2 top ♠,♥A,♦KQ and 3♣(pitching an ♥) and 2 ruffs. Perhaps it's better to play ♠A,K,x..

If you play ♠AKx you lose 4 tricks immediately, if you take the clubs out for your pitch before playing spades, you are an entry short to lead diamonds twice from hand, that's why I played the first diamond before drawing trumps.
