rr9000
I'm looking at Meckwell's defense against weak notrump, 2C = spades and a round suit2D = diamonds and a major2H = hearts2S = spades and wondering whether anyone knows the follow-up bids for this. If not, maybe our collective efforts can work out what they must be in order to get to the best major suit fits with the various hand types. Thanks! RR9000 PS. While we're at it, any comments on follow-up bids for the following response system are also welcome. 2C = majors2D = diamonds and a major2H = hearts2S = spades
TylerE
IMO any defense without a penalty double is unplayable against Weak NT.
pescetom
IMO any defense without a penalty double is unplayable against Weak NT. It looks to me as if both of these defences are compatible with a penalty double.

gwnn
There's very little you can do after 2D=diamonds and a major and 2C=spades and a round suit. After 2D, obviously 2H has to be pass or correct and it seems best to have 2S as pass or correct as well (say, 3136 - hearts is your least favourite). 2NT would be an ask and maybe it makes sense to have:3C=4 hearts ,5+ diamonds3D=4 spades, 5+ diamonds3H/S= 5 cards here, 4+ diamondsRemember that the overcaller is definitely limited (2D was non forcing). After 2C S+(H/D) you can play something very similar. I guess 2C could be played as F but I wouldn't. It's a competitive auction and it makes sense to allow lots of bailouts. After 2C= both majors obviously 2D should ask for the best major. Remember to bid it also on 3-2 in the majors either way, and remember not to bid 2C on 4-4. Even if you don't remember the 3-2 thing when it's your turn to bid, when you're defending and your partner bid 2D, make sure to take this into account.
