A trump for me. Partner has all side suits, so it seems best to go passive and let declarer do his own job.

Trump leads are neglected far too often. We may even prevent a ruff in dummy. LHO could be 2-5-4-2

I like a trump lead.

But as an alternative I like hearts.

We are not likely to be on lead very often, and if I had to choose which suit to lead through dummy I'd guess hearts.

If playing hearts I would not play a low one, but unblock by playing the J.

I will post the full hand tomorrow, but I am curious why people prefer a diamond over a heart. What would the diamond leaders do with K53 and J96?

I knew leading from Jacks may not be best but my old buddy has really pounded this point in my small brain.

Should we go out on limb and say 99% try not to lead from 3 small to the jack?

At the risk of being sawed off, try not leading them and see if you enjoy your results.

I don't think there should be an automatism to lead partner's suit here. He has doubled 2, which suggests he has a good 4-card major. He didn't raise spades, so his best suit might well be hearts. Well, since I am mentioning this, you may well guess that it's particularly true on the actual deal:

[hv=d=n&v=e&n=s3h2daq862caq8763&w=sjt85hakq3dj97ck4&e=sq964hj96dk53cj92&s=sak72ht8754dt4ct5]399|300|Scoring: MP[/hv]

On a diamond lead declarer has easy 12 tricks, a heart and a trump hold it to 10 for 75% instead of 50% of the matchpoints.

Anyway, thanks to Roland and others for convincing me that a trump lead is best here.
