We haven't been able to reproduce this ourselves, and our understanding is that Safari isn't supposed to throttle inactive tabs if they use WebSockets, which is how our app communicates with the server. If it happens again, can you let us know the time so we can check our server logs?2.5 years later, but I remembered you saying that when I happened to come across this thread today: https://github.com/socketio/socket.io/issues/2924 which was about how Safari *did* sporadically drop WebSocket connections when the page wasn't in focus, and a fix was put in place in SocketIO late last year.
