paulg
I respond 1NT and then bid 3♦ if partner continues with 2♣.It makes no difference that I am a passed hand.

Does it matter if you are not a passed hand ?+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Over partner's 1♠ opener in any position, I rank1. Pass = NAT. Might bid if opponents compete.2. 1N = NAT. If partner rebids 2♣ (Gazzilli) then you might bid 3♦ or even 2N (if the latter shows both minors).[/hv]
etha
Interesting no one has considered 2♦ which by a passed hand I wouldn't have thought needed many values and just a decent diamond suit and would be readily passable? cherdano
I respond 1NT and then bid 3♦ if partner continues with 2♣.It makes no difference that I am a passed hand.So basically, by passing in first seat I committed to playing in 3♦ anyway when partner has a spade suit, while giving opponents a free run when he doesn't? Sign me up for a weak 2♦ opening bid in first seat, and 3♦ if the former isn't available.
cherdano
If I was somehow barred from opening, I strongly agree with Nigel - I don't see why we can expect to take three more tricks in diamonds than in spades, and if I pass, we might still get out of having to declare any contract.
