New Client Software

Couple questions about the new software

1. How do I control / configure the sound effects?

2. If I am playing a tournament and have finished a board, how can I see what contracts other people played?

You click just above bd number on the left and then other tables. Sound you can kill the annoying play a card sound by going into your account settings and sound is under general. There isn't much to configure but removing that is priority one. You can make chat speak by going to the same place but under chat rather than sound. I find if I review a board and then go back to it I sometimes have an odd bug if I work out exactly how I'll tell them.

You can turn the sound effects on/off on an individual basis, by going into Account/Settings and then scrolling to the bottom of the list of settings.

When you select a board in History, there is an "Other tables" button below the hand diagram. Probably we will try to make this more obvious at some point.

Thanks

Got it figured out.

FWIW, the new software currently feels weird to me, however, I suspect that is simply that I am used to the old Flash client.

(Personally, I much rather have weird than Flash)

Can we rotate the declarer to the south position after the auction is over?

You mean in Human Declare robot tournaments?

We did this when we first added that feature, but people found it confusing because it meant that the auction no longer matched the positions of the players.

You mean some vociferous people found it confusing. I think most people find it confusing to not switch, and there would be no confusion if BBO displayed dummy in 4 suit columns like the laws of bridge specify.

Since you had already added code to switch the hands, you could have added an option in settings so that the user could choose whether to switch or not.

Where are all the missing parts?

  • a panel for reviewing the auction
  • a link to the results of the earlier hands
  • the settings menu

The view is very barren. I get a feeling that this would be fine, if I were accessing the site on a smartphone or another device with a small screen, but I am using a laptop with 18 inch screen.

Don't like it at all.

I was directed to BBO/v3 with the promise that there would be unlimited Daylongs. Didn't see them yet, either. What's the deal here?

Cheers,

Jyrki

I have played several tourneys and no doubt will get used to the interface but I must say unles i am missing some buttn the print is miniscule and people with compromised eyesight will be definitely at a disadvantaged. Trying to read table results is very difficult as is trying to see how others played the board. Also I wasn't able to register with a partner then go to entries to see p's profile prior to playing. Any help? Also can't see all12 bds at once w/o altering playing surface.

Click on the contract and the auction will be shown.

Click on the box with the running score and previous hands will be shown. You can also use the History tab.

Settings are in the Account tab. You'll need to widen the sidebar to be able to get to the tool to turn settings on and off.

You're normally limited to 3 free daylongs each week, that limit is disabled if you use V3.

To find the free daylong tournament, go to Competitive -> Free Tournaments

does anyone else have a problem with 'fuzzy font' on new version. i think it must be a problem on my side, as no one else has mentioned it. Does anyone have any suggestions, to make the font clearer? Also, when i join a table, the 'table hands' show all historical hands, played at the table. would it be possible to limit this, to only the hands played only since one joins a table?

many thanks for continually endeavouring to make BBO better for all.

This is the same in all versions.

The table host decides when to clear the history for the table.

Thanks, Barmar. Found them (other than free Daylongs, but didn't look for them, yet). I would rather use the screen real estate covered by friend's faces with this other stuff, but may be I figure out a way to do that :-)

May be the semi-persistent problem with the chat hanging will be gone with this update? We'll see!

This new version looks very like the app that is available for IOS. I don't like the app, and I don't like this either. If you retire the older version, I would expect my BBO play time to drop drastically. I really do not like the look and feel. I want simulated cards, and I don't care how much screen is wasted - nothing else will do.

It's the same program. It just has some layout changes to take advantage of more space on desktop screens.

We don't have any choice about retiring the old version. As we keep pointing out, browsers will be removing Flash next year, and the old version requires it.
