After West followed to four hearts I gleefully threw him in with a diamond to wait for the spade endplay. Unfortunately East knew that his partner only had three diamonds (and not A983 which would be down one with no play. How East knows this is beyond me as the bots usually randomly discard their high spot cards).

Never assume GIB is making a brilliant play when a random play is most likely, especially early in the play.

I don't like the attempted diamond endplay. If West had 4 diamonds as you thought, he could only have 2 spades, and East would have had 4. More likely that East has K (and a club winner(s)). Also, I think with AQ92, West probably would not have led diamonds. If West unexpectedly did lead diamonds with AQ92, I would expect West to overtake the K at trick 2 to cash the other diamonds in case East only had 2 diamonds.
