My guess is that GIB(West) believed the explanation of Trick13's 3 bid:

5 s and 17 HCP,

in which case declarer has the remaining tricks.

In such a context, GIB defenders sometimes "give-up" and play misère. [/hv]

So 3 promised 17 hcp?!? Then West was unable to generate a single deal consistent with the auction and play so far and probably ended up picking the T over 3 at random.

I only noticed that from West's perspective South would need to hold both the ace and jack of spades in order to have had as much as 15 hcp (and thus AJx Qx Qxx KQJxx) initially.

Or, perhaps: A x Q x Q J x x K Q J x x or perhaps another .

I'm more worried by the GIB bidding. I avoid Cappelletti because of the bizarre inversion of the minors, but surely 2 must have some conventional meaning and demand some reply?
