A three-part Question on Take-out Doubles

Recommended Posts

Part 1

You are East, declarer in 3NT after an uncontested auction (if you prefer that west responded 1, that's fine, the contract and lead will be the same). Scoring is IMPs (multiple teams of eight event) and the lead is the 3 (2nd & 4th leads, If you try the ten at trick 1, North will play the queen).

What is your plan?

Part 2

[hv=pc=n&w=sat7hj963d9732cj5&e=sk6ha5daqj4ckq874&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=p1cdp1s2dp2np3nppp]266|200[/hv]

You are now West on the same hands, declarer in 3NT after South has made a take-out double. North leads the 5 (South will play the Jack if you duck).

What is your plan? Is there any difference from the previous answer?

Part 3

[hv=pc=n&w=sat7hj963d9732cj5&e=sk6ha5daqj4ckq874&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=p1cdp1s2dp2np3nppp]266|200[/hv]

Exactly the same hand and auction and opening lead as part 2. But now you are told that the take-out double "promises opening values, but doesn't promise club shortage and other suits are a minimum two-card length".

Does this additional information affect your plan?

Part 3

Presumably they had to alert this double and explain when requested?

If so, as West I would have bid the same way as in an uncontested auction.

In our case hearts, so East would probably bid 2NT even if North chirped up in spades.
