How would you bid this board ?

Tding a 7 table tourney the following board was played in 7 different contracts I asked around and received 2 replies and now I have 9 different contracts <_<

Sorry been a long time since I had time to post on here and I cant find the hand insert form I'm sure you can figure it out though ( looked perfect in the draft !)

North

- ----

- AKJ652

- 10 8 7

- Q854

West East

- Q1098753 - KJ62

- 10943 - Q87

- 6 2 - A3

- 3 - A1076

South

- A74

- ---

- KQJ954

- KJ92

What would be the optimum contract and why ?

Two contracts made =,

1 made + 2.

South was declarer at 4 tables , North at 2 tables and West at 1 table.

N/S Not Vul :: E/W Vul

East Opened 1C at all tables

I have promised to get them the good oil - must be a consensus somewhere ?

I would expect the bidding to go

1C - 1D - 2S - 3H

4S - AP

which is down 2 for -200.

If E/W aren't playing weak jump shifts (in competition), then N/S have some chance of finding 5D, but it's pretty hard.

The weak-NTers might get to 4S by East, which is only down 1.

5 is a maker, actually. W shows out on the 2nd club so you are 100% to come back and hook the 10.

Sir,pardon me but ,there appears to be an oversight.W is on lead and certainly he is not dumb to lead a spade where no trick is expected.A club lead ,club ruff and the inescapable DA means 3 losers of the top.

Sir,excuse me but the S7 is duplicated and W has 14 cards.

I will assume a 10 card fit for E/W as it is over four times more likely than an 11 card fit. (The board display icon is the enclosed symbol on the far right of the icons for future reference.)

Well 5 of a minor is a very reasonable contract NS, 5 getting beaten by the club ruff, 5 is tricky to bid after the 1 opener, but might make although it seems in trouble if EW just keep playing spades.

I'm not totally familiar with how you bid this starting 1 as I would open a weak NT

I'm not clear if over 1-(1) W bids 2 or passes and if he passes whether E passes or doubles over 1 from N. It's possible NS could get a totally free run.

Not around here. Almost everyone plays WJS also in competition, so W bids 2 without hesitation.

I think the final contract all depends on what system E/W are playing. If E/W are playing weak jump responses then they will arrive in a contract; if not, then N/S will arrive in a contract. That about sums up this board.

If West doesn't mention the s, then on values N/S should arrive in a 5 contract (as Cyberyeti rightly says) unfortunately going down on the ruff.

Hi,

even playing WJS: I would not make the WJS as West, we are Red vs. Green, I have shortage in

partners suit.

At this colors, a WJS should show something constructive.

Bidding a WJS or a NFB with this kind of hand is one of the main reasons, WJS / NFB have such a

bad reputation.

With kind regards

Marlowe

Thanks My not using the board display has caused some confusion I've made a note - M
