The third should play high...or not?

Recommended Posts

In fact, I am not sure, whether this contribution belongs to the beginner/intermediate forum, but let us see....

MP competition, vulnerable against not, you have

1042--A754--K10942--9,

starting with LHO, the bidding is simple (the opponents bid, your line just has to pass):

1 club (Acol, 12-21, natural, 4+) - 1H(5+PC, 4+)

1NT(15-18PC, balanced) - 3NT.

Your partner leads spade 6 (fourth highest) and the dummy is

...............A95

...............K1086

...............J875

...............J4

(1042--A754--K10942--9)

Do you play small spade or ten of spades?

Low is much too big of a play I think...If partner has K876x we need to play low. QJ76, QJ86, QJ86x, QJ76x then the ten will be better immediately. If partner has KJ76 or KJ86 then the ten will be better if he gets in before we do as we will have frozen the suit for him.
