There's some funny stuff going on

I'm seeing some bizarre bidding and playing in the new MP and IMP games. I'm beginning to wonder if there isn't some sort of random component being thrown in. Here's a hand from an IMP game where GIB seems to go completely bonkers.

Human is South here. GIB is doing all the bidding. 2NT was correctly described as 10-12, invitational, although with those great club and diamond cards I would lean towards bidding game. GIB East, with a 19 count, passes the invitation!

Agreed. Robots seem to be getting stupid. Today i had one go down in a cold 4S contract by refusing a ruff & sluff. Another went down in cold 3H by taking an unnecessary finesse after setting up a suit that would have given robot enough tricks . And yesterday I saw this auction...

P P 1C P

1S P P P

WTH? I had 4S & 9 points. Robot had 1 spade, 14 points and a clear 1NT rebid. I was so po'd I just logged off.

I never thought I would say this, but that looks like a bad 19 count B-)

I agree, but I think it's still worth 3 (or 3NT if that is how they bid).

That 2 bid urges caution by West.

I can't see why 2NT should be strong and invitational, what should West bid if he has modest 5-card spades and hearts?

Strong and invitational as descriptions for a responding hand are an unusual grouping of adjectives.

Less than an invitational hand? Take a preference to a minor, or rebid spades if you think spades will be better than a minor.

It appears such excessive egregiousness occurs in IMP/MP tournament formats where I am assuming many many tables are being served simultaneously.

I think GUBBO is out of resources - e.g. searches the bidding table and randomly picks from the choices.

In moneybridge less egregious especially at Highest Skill/Slowest Speed.

But nobody agrees it is a resource problem.
