uday
We mulled over this one for a bit, but here we are. A user who is inactive for 2 hours sees a popup that says something like 'Are you there?'. If the user does not click OK on that popup, his or her session is disconnected 10 minutes after that. I'll implement more meaningful definitions of 'is inactive' at some point. For now, logging in, joining a table, and clicking OK on the 'are you there?' popup are the only 'activities' recognized by our server. Yellow users (including vugraph operators) are exempt, as are users who are at a teaching table or a vugraph table. I'm expecting no one will care much about this, but I have my fingers crossed anyway. u
Elianna
Um, so playing at a table, and chatting (in a chat room or as a kibbitzer at a table) aren't activities recognized by the server? If so, then people may get this "are you there" pop up more often than could be expected. Also, you may want to have the acceptance button say "yes", not "ok" (but really, this is being somewhat anal). Anyway, I'm not saying I'm against this. I don't have feelings about it, either way, just questions. :P -Elianna
uday
they're not recognized yet.. they will be soon enough. I picked 2-hrs out of thin air. I might bump it up to (3,4,10,whatever). I am not trying to timeout active users, of course I'm guessing very few people will actually be impacted, and the price (click ok until the server is smarter) isnt too high. DrTodd13
Silly question. Why not have the client do this by itself? Seems you can achieve your goal of reducing server load more this way than getting the server involved. Todd
uday
When the client gets around to this, i'll be delighted! Only the client really knows, anyway - it has mouse action, keyboard action to work with. I'm sure FG will do this eventually. Meanwhile, I dont want my servers to wait. luke warm
sounds like an excellent idea to me... an hour would be fine with me
shoeless
While I was playing in main bridge club this morning I was prompted to indicate if I wanted to stay active - what was interesting was I had been playing chatting all the time - did your server think I was playing poorly and was just being subtle? hotShot
I can live with that suggestion, but there are 2 things that you should add: 1) The dialog should appear with some kind of sound!2) You should consider the last finished board too. And if i may add an additional wish:Make this dialog available to TD's with a shorter timeout e.g. 30 sec.If a player is reported "inactive" the TD can "right click" this message and if it's not answered within 30 seconds the player is subbed. Chamaco
I think it's a good idea, although I would very much like that any mouseclick/keyboard stroke i the BBO environment is recognized to break the idle period. :-)
Brandal
While I was playing in main bridge club this morning I was prompted to indicate if I wanted to stay active - what was interesting was I had been playing chatting all the time - did your server think I was playing poorly and was just being subtle? To avoid pop up asking if you're there, leave in the middleof a hand to join a new table after playing no more than1hr59mins59sec :) On a serious note,I'm sure the software will recognize mouseactivity and/or keyboard activity some day. I think it's a good idea,I suspect many just have BBO hangingout in the background while at work etc.
uday
All bbo popups can have a sound asssociated with them: yellow gear->Sounds->customize and you'll see the last item is "Message". I've bumped up the timeout to 3 hrs for now. I'm not wild about the 'check for idle player' TD function. Maybe a 'Replace-if-idle' function ? Maybe. pigpenz
yeah I noticed that yesterday, I tend to leave my connection on to BBO while at work and check out hands in between patients....no problem ....just reconnect.
