virgosrock
Initially I cast blame on GUBBO for not bidding 2D.Upon further thought it is my fault. I should bid 3D. No clue what would have happened later but 3D is right.Plus I should take a leaf out of robot's book. Many time in situations like 1m-2N the bot bids 3C especially with 11-12 hcp and has 5 of them.Always wondered why. Now I know. steve2005
Don't know which worse bidding 2NT without much of a semblance of a major suit stopper or going to 3NT on a minimum.3N at least there is a chance diamonds will run as 2N bidder usually has 3♦.. 2♣ is probably the normal bid. I see nothing wrong with 2♦ on 4, everyone knows 1♦ almost always has 4+♦

I should bid 3D over 2NT.
steve2005
Had a hand tonight on BBO with humans that had similar characteristics to this hand.had 4♦ 4♣ and a Ax ♥ stopper but no ♠ stopper. Most ended up in 3NT which didnt have much play but as usual some made.At our table went 1♦ - 3NT by east East had 12 hcp. west also had 12 hcp. Not all were in game but most in NTpeople played from east side went down worse on average than those who played from west side (maybe they were playing weak NT or just had different bidding)Prime reason for difference is west has stoppers in both majors so better positioned.Only people who made led Q from QJx♦ with west playing it. I guess they didnt open 1♦ or player suicidal.with east playing 3N the leader has a more obvious heart lead but according to Gibs DD most any lead is -1 I think except for Q♦ mentioned

Stephen Tu
Why would 2d understate the hand?? 2d is inverted, it's unlimited. It's a better call than 2c GF or 2nt which wrong sides. Yes 2nt doesn't guarantee stoppers, but it's a bid best avoided if possible without them, if there is a viable alternative. If one were 3334 11-12, then no real choice. But South should sign off over either 2d/2nt.

Fair enough if it is inverted - that would explain some mishaps I have had with GIB.There's nothing in 2/1 which says you must play inverted minors.Does it play the jump to 3D as mixed or weak? johnu
Single dummy, 3NT looks like a decent contract. Defense has to lead spades which is no sure thing with a robot on lead, and cash enough spade tricks with no spade blockage to set the contract. Sure, the 89% chance of diamonds running didn't happen, and the defense did lead spades. Next hand. B-)
