Wackojack
♠4 ♥A8732 ♦107 ♣K9872I was dealt this at love all imps and passed. 5-5 come alive I say. So I bid 2♠. East passes. Partner bids 2NT. I show my 2nd suit with 3♣ and partner bids 3NT. [hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=p1sp1n2sp2np3cp3nppp]133|100[/hv] Partner had:♠107532, ♥KJ, ♦AQ865, ♣A This was obviously not a success and went 2 off. I blame partner for making the wrong bid twice.1. Should have made a preference bid of 3♥ over 3♣ 2. Should have overcalled 1♠ with 2♦ initially. Then of course I could have passed throughout. At the other table South did overcall 2♦ and the bidding went:[hv=d=n&v=0&b=1&a=p1s2ddp2nppp]133|100[/hv]This went 2 off and so you can see why overcalling 2♦ gains.
MrAce
I would not bid 2♠ with your hand.
FelicityR
This went 2 off and so you can see why overcalling 2♦ gains. Agree entirely with that but agree so much more with Mr Ace that 2♠ is a chancer's bid. So lucky not to be doubled in 3NT. A competent East-West would have hung you out to dry. eagles123
i'd want more than this shite to come in 2S here!! and I wouldn't bid 2D with ur partners hand either, but it is close, the fact it happens to work here is a complete irrelevance!
rmnka447
I also agree that bidding 2 ♠ is not something to do. You should note that 2 NT by the opponents was off 2. Assuming a somewhat similar defense sitting for 1 NT is likely to beat it 1 for a minimal loss. Your point that a 2 ♦ overcall wins is well taken, but that doesn't lessen the problem with making the 2 ♠ bid.
helene_t
Ha-ha I think Wacko is teasing us. He was sitting in the opposite seat in both threads :)
Wackojack
Fantastic Helene you got it. I am surprised that nobody said that bidding 2 ♠ was insane. Were they afraid of hurting my feelings :) The point of this post is that paradoxically if I am bold and overcall 2♦ the opps get too high and if I pass my GIB partner pushes me way too high. GIB is very strange sometimes.
joris999
Maybe you could play muiderberg opening: 2H =6-9 pts, 5H + 4+ minor
maartenxq
[5-5 come alive I say. And get what you deserve. Maybe partner could have bid better, but you force him to make an awkward decision on 3 level. When fixed stay fixed is a saying you should study next. miamijd
Nobody ever said GIB knew how to bid.
