Cyberyeti
I lead a prosaic small diamond too much danger partner has Jxx(x) and a club stop, 4432 is a not unlikely shape for S, but a spade can easily be right.
Phil
Even if a low diamond is wrong, you will have a lot of company.
P_Marlowe
Hi, it is either diamonds or spades, ..., but given that partner did notovercall 1S, I will go with a diamond, any diamond honor will be enoughto help us establish the suit, ..., we have a 5 carder with Ace and Ten. Maybe they are even old school, and they would never byp pass diamondswhen being 44 in the reds. With kind regardsMarlowe

Winstonm
Although I don't know Acol, I assume the 2C bid is 6 cards in length, which makes me concerned declarer has 8 cashers and a diamond lead hands out a 9th trick that is undeserved. Against that is the case where clubs are stopped and a diamond is necessary to establish 4 more tricks. I am with the majority - a diamond as anything else is too much a guess and too abnormal. rmnka447
Low ♦ (4th or 5th as per your lead agreements) It probably wouldn't be unusual for declarer to be 4-4 in the majors on this auction.
ahydra
Thanks all. So, one vote for a spade, and 14 for a diamond. I led a spade: [hv=pc=n&s=skq83hqj763dq54ck&w=st76ht92dat763cj6&n=sa52ha5dk2cq98732&e=sj94hk84dj98cat54&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=p1cp1hp2cp3nppp]399|300[/hv] My logic was:- leading from broken honours is risky - partner is quite likely to have 4 spades- partner has the entries, not me. The latter certainly turned out to be true but partner lacked imagination and persisted with spades both times she got in, so declarer was able to set up hearts. But on reflection, I thought I should lead a diamond - it's less risky to lead from broken honours in a 5-card suit, and declarer may still have 4 spades since dummy denied 4 spades. ahydra
