Same tournament, different boards?

Recommended Posts

My dad and I both played the 'Daylong Tournament (MP) A - 2018-05-06' tournament. However, it appears we played different boards as you can see here:

My boards: http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/daylong_hands.php?tourney=ARDARD%3A0ab60026.50eb.11e8.a8d0.0cc47a39aeb4-1525583106-&username=ermurphy

His boards: http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/daylong_hands.php?tourney=ARDARD%3A0ab60026.50eb.11e8.a8d0.0cc47a39aeb4-1525583106-&username=bmerf

Aren't all players supposed to play the same boards in a tournament like this?

Kindly ignore the abysmal scores on my boards :)

No - if that were the case, someone could complete 8 boards, then sign in with a second account and guarantee first place. It does make comparisons rather arbitrary at times though - there's a lot of luck involved based on the hands you are dealt.

Ah interesting, so they're a little less duplicate in order to deter cheating. Thanks smerriman.

It's not unlike some clubs I know where, with one set of boards, 15 tables and 8 rounds, you might find yourself playing only half the same boards as your competitors.

It is possible to organize your own tournament with all playimg the same boards simultaneously by uploading a set of boards for play on a number of teaching tables. Cheating could not be prevented but what would be the point? Also, you can use a set of boards downloaded from an ACBL session so you can compare with the original session and even matchpoint later.
