Everyone meets everyone. A lot of advantages: no luck of a draw, and you avoid the problem of 80% of the players waiting for 20% in the later stages of the tournament. A lot of advantages: no luck of a draw, and you avoid the problem of 80% of the players waiting for 20% in the later stages of the tournament.I liked the Swiss format the best actually. It's even possible to sit out some rounds (and get a 0, or some small number). edit: of course, I liked the KO the best, up to the point when I got knocked out. mlbridge
I have a question regarding the BOT. It seems that one cannot double for penalty. Here is an example: http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?bbo=y&lin=pn|jevan12,mlbridge,bstMD,~~M46839|st%7C%7Cmd%7C3S2QKH579TD5JC468K%2CS34567HQD28KAC259%2CSTH248JKAD3479QCT%2C%7Crh%7C%7Cah%7CBoard%205%7Csv%7Cn%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C1C%7Can%7CMinor%20suit%20opening%20--%203%2B%20%21C%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C1S%7Can%7COne%20over%20one%20--%204%2B%20%21S%3B%206%2B%20total%20points%7Cmb%7C4H%7Cmb%7C4S%7Can%7C4%2B%20%21C%3B%204%2B%20%21S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%2017-22%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C5D%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C5H%7Cmb%7Cd%7Can%7C4%2B%20%21S%3B%207%2B%20HCP%3B%208-14%20total%20points%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7C5S%7Can%7C5%2B%20%21C%3B%205%2B%20%21S%3B%2021-%20HCP%3B%204-card%20%21C%3B%2017-22%20total%20points%20%7Cmb%7Cd%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cmb%7Cp%7Cpc%7CHK%7Cpc%7CH3%7Cpc%7CH5%7Cpc%7CHQ%7Cpc%7CCT%7Cpc%7CCA%7Cpc%7CC4%7Cpc%7CC2%7Cpc%7CSA%7Cpc%7CS2%7Cpc%7CS3%7Cpc%7CST%7Cpc%7CS8%7Cpc%7CSQ%7Cpc%7CS4%7Cpc%7CD7%7Cpc%7CHT%7Cpc%7CS5%7Cpc%7CH2%7Cpc%7CH6%7Cpc%7CC9%7Cpc%7CH4%7Cpc%7CC3%7Cpc%7CCK%7Cpc%7CD5%7Cpc%7CDA%7Cpc%7CD4%7Cpc%7CD6%7Cpc%7CS6%7Cpc%7CH8%7Cpc%7CS9%7Cpc%7CSK%7Cpc%7CDJ%7Cmc%7C9%7C The BOT kept bidding over the 5 hearts double even though the opp is vul. I have another competitive hand where I was going to double for penalty but when I hover over my double bid, the BOT continue to treats it as me showing a massive hand. Am I doing missing something regarding the BOT?
barmar
Am I doing missing something regarding the BOT?No. There are some doubles it understands as penalty, and sometimes it chooses to convert high-level takeout doubles (and occasionally it's even a correct decision). But it's really hard to write these kinds of bidding rules to cover most cases.
hrothgar
Since we're already talking about formats for the next event our two, let me throw my hat into the ring. (Please note: the following would require some coding support by BBO. Luckily we have barmar participating) What if, instead of a "tournament", we created a permanent ladder. 1. Any forum participant who wants to get's to join the ladder2. Anyone who belongs to the ladder can issue a challenge at any point in time3. When a challenge is issued BBO will randomly pair you against another ladder member for a 16 board match. You will tend to play against other players whose rank in the ladder is close to your own. However, sometimes you'll get lucky and paired with someone further off…4. If you beat someone whose rank in the ladder is higher than yours or the same, you advance. Conversely, if you lose to someone who is weaker you (or the same) you fall back by 1.5. All new players enter the ladder at the midpoint6. Players have three days to finish their match. Otherwise the challenged player forfeits.7. Players can put themselves on "vacation" as necessary.8. 50% of all matches will be randomly set to IMPs, 50% will be randomly set to BAM Barry, from my perspective, this shouldn't be too difficult to code up. If it works well, you could roll it out to the populace at large and use this as a tool to upsell premium bots…
