Teams. Conditions of contest

Two teams are to compete in the trials for the National Team. A director has been appointed. One pair has not given in their CC at the time specified by the conditions of contest. Is the TD allowed to call off the match the morning after the deadline? If the tournament committee decides to extend the deadline by 24 hours, is the TD then allowed to refuse to direct? Let us say that it is uncertain whether the offending pair had a reasonable excuse or not.

What does the CoC say about failure to provide CC in time?

At what (precise) time is the responsibility for the contest transferred from the tournament committee to the Tournament Director?

It doesn’t.

It doesn’t state that either.

This is history now but I was curious. I guess CoC should have been clearer.

Thank you.

Why are you asking here?

Check the conditions of contest and rules of your National Bridge organization. or at least supply a link to the information.

Unless someone is familiar with rules for Cyprus or wherever your from they will have no idea.

And unless you can read Greek, there is no point in posting a link here.

If the CoC doesn't answer the critical questions, it's pretty difficult to give a definitive answer. Maybe the RA has some precedents that they can refer to.

It seems kind of irresponsible to have regulations that say contestants must do certain things, but doesn't say what should be done when they fail.

Calling the match off would be .... how to say it .... a shame.

Maybe assign a PP or forbid the pair to play any BSCs as opps didn't have time to prepare a defense? Or give opps time to discuss defenses at the start of the match and then give any resulting time penalty to the offenders?

Of course it would be nice to have explicit rules for this. But you can't have rules for everything.

Law 81B2 says "The Director is responsible for the on-site technical management of the tournament. He has powers to remedy any omissions of the Tournament Organizer."

I don't think that extends to cancelling the event, but I do think he can require the miscreant pair to play a simple system card even if there's no regulation that explicitly gives him that authority.
