euclidz
What does this bid mean? What might this bid mean? Pass Pass 3♥ Dble Pass 4♣ What might the 4C bid mean (Note: It is not Gerber)
Cyberyeti
It means I have clubs and a hand unsuitable for a 2nd seat 3♣, what else do you do with xx, xx, xx, Q109xxxx ?
nige1
What does this bid mean? What might this bid mean?Pass Pass 3♥ Dble Pass 4♣ What might the 4C bid mean (Note: It is not Gerber)4♣ shows a hand with ♣s and no better option.e.g.♠ x x ♥ x ♦ x x x x ♣ x x x x x x♠ Q x ♥ x x x ♦ x x x ♣ K Q J x x For those who believe that you should take-out whenever asked to do so, it might show e.g.♠ x x x ♥ x x x ♦ x x x ♣ x x x xor worse. (Arguably, 4♣ is less likely to excite partner than 3♠). Other players might pass when fixed with such a hand.
euclidz
Thanks for the helpful replies. There are lots of things I know but unfortunately even more things that I don't know, I wondered if it could mean anything other than Clubs. P_Marlowe
Hi, more general:The 4C bid has the same meaning as 2C in the seq. (pass) - pass - (1H) - X(pass) - 2C or (1H) - X - (Pass) - 2C This is due to the fact, that X has a similar meaning, it is for T/O. The only bid with a different meaning is a NT response,a 1 NT response to a T/o showes some values, a 3NT responseonly showes a stopper, whatever may be viewed as a stopper. With kind regardsMarlowe
steve2005
Is double for penalties ?Then this is trivial. I assume no. In which case 4♣ could be as little as 4 clubs and 0 points with some upper limit. It could only mean something else if you have agreed that it does show something else. gszes
A take out x (TOX) is asking partner to offer an opinion as to the best strain/level if the Xer has a generally balanced hand outside the tox suit (in this case hearts). Our overall totally decrepit hand should be sending out huge warning signals that leaving 3hx in place is courting disaster. We are expecting the TOXer to take at least 5 tricks on defense when they have promised none (though none is sort of excessive picture KQJx void KQJxx KQJx and tell me u would not x 3h). 4c here does not promise anything and is more along the lines of trying to avoid the total disaster that 3hx making would be. What type of hand might I bid 4c with? xxx xxx xxx xxxx is the simplest. A 5c bid might look x xxx xxx Axxxxx so 4c is somewhere btn totally busted and my example of a 5c bid. euclidz
Here is the hand. I have watched East on many occasions and IMO East is either Ron Klinger or has magical powers of perception and remarkable judgement (or something else) [hv=pc=n&s=sj9864hat7d2ckq74&w=st73hkdkt75cj9653&n=s2hq986542dj86ct2&e=sakq5hj3daq943ca8&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=pp3hdp4cp4d4hpp5dppp]399|300[/hv] He/she makes the 5 Diamonds

euclidz
And here's another one. This time he's West and makes 6D! There's just no way for West to know that East holds all the right cards to make 6 ♦.
