GIB seems to have a magnet that pulls it to the 2-card preference, especially if the opening bid is a major. Although your example is extreme, I wouldn't call it rare.I don't even bother to look for a 4-4 major fit any more when a known 5-3 exists. GIB does now seem to randomise between some possible responses, at least when it bids in the solitaire Free Weekly Tournament - you can see this by comparing the bidding in multiple plays of the same hand.
