Thoughts? I think 4S is ridiculous especially when a 3S is available. What exactly could the GIBug be?

 

Also, have you noticed GIBBO generally has length in one/both of opps' suits when makes fit-showing jumps i.e. 3C here.

4♠ is hideous. The only reason Gib can count 12 points is counting singleton. You need a fit to count a singleton. The only known fit is clubs and might even be 4-3. Do you really want to be in 4♣ when partner opened 1♣ and then went quiet?

I think the GIBug might be:

Until explicit fit is found DO NOT assume implicit fit and count "points" for singletons or doubletons. If assume implicit fit MUST HAVE 6+ cards in suit.

 

That should cover it. I have asked the question several times. "points" I read on BBO website 10 years ago are applicable when fit is found. BBO since then, at some point, removed the fit and points statement.
